Dampened enthusiasm for Cubbie sale

09 Mar, 2010 09:57 AM
WHILE record rainfall changes the financial landscape for Australia's biggest cotton irrigator Cubbie Station in south-east Queensland, it hasn't yet changed the interest from potential investors.

Qatar's Hassad Food has confirmed that it talked through a proposal to buy the 92,000-hectare operation as early as 15 months ago – well before it was officially on the market – but is no longer interested, according to The Australian Financial Review.

Hassad chairman Mohammed Fhaid Al Hajri sent a full team to investigate. "They came especially from Qatar to Cubbie to see its potential," Mr Al Hajri said.

"But that team said it was not a 'go' because the property was dictated for cotton and would not fit within Hassad's strategy."

Damn good thing if no-one wants to buy it ...but in the meantime, why can't we have some of the water they are holding back - greedy lot... and all for cotton. What about NSW and SA? The sooner State boundaries about water are gone the better. It's a national disgrace.

The amount of water flowing past Cubbie Station at the moment would fill the storages in a matter of minutes.
