Carrington Farms is in PrimeAg's 'zone'

15 Mar, 2010 09:53 AM
LISTED agriculture company PrimeAg, which recently welcomed an increased shareholding from the Guinness Peat Group, is interested in buying one of Australia's largest irrigators, Carrington Farms.

Chairman Peter Corish told The Australian Financial Review that Carrington was in the company's sights.

"The Carrington aggregation is right in our zone so it would be fair to say that we would not be doing our job as directors if we did not evaluate such an opportunity," Mr Corish said.

Carrington Farms is privately held by the Marchant family. The 57,370-hectare property on the Queensland-NSW border, stretches 80 kilometres alongside the Macintyre River and holds one of Australia's largest water licence portfolios.

It is expected to be Australia's biggest ever rural sale, with the property already attracting international and local interest.
