Santas sizzle on Western Downs

10 Sep, 2010 05:00 PM
TOP-FLIGHT Santa Gertrudis stud, Yarrawonga-Waco has raked in more than $1 million at today's annual on-property sale at Wallumbilla, east of Roma.

After celebrating its 50th anniversary sale last year, the Bassingthwaighte family-owned enterprise showed none of the sparkle has been lost, with eager buyers clearing the entire catalogue of 171 head at an average of $6289, earning the stud $1,075,500.

Dingo Santa Gertrudis breeder Maurie Barlow, Yarrabee, paid the day's top price of $32,000 for Yarrawonga Wager.

The Yarrawonga-Waco sale comes one day after Drillham breeders Cyril and Denise Gould, Moongana Santa Gertrudis stud, paid $28,000 for Roger and Shane Hatton's Diamond H Larrikin at Wandoan.

The Sydney Royal grand champion Santa Gertrudis bull was the undisputed star of the 94 lots offered at the Diamond H annual on-property sale, which also included 20 classified stud heifers, selling to a top of $5500 and averaging $3127.
