Roma sets record heavy feeder cattle price at 260c

A TOTAL of 5361 head of cattle were penned at Queensland’s benchmark Roma store cattle sale on Tuesday.

A large number of restocker buyers were in attendance with livestock producers buying cattle from as far away as Cloncurry in North-West Queensland. Competition between restockers and feedlots remained strong for the first sale of the year and cattle prices continued to be bullish.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 260c and averaging 207c/kg, while steers in the 350-400kg range reached 256c/kg and averaged 220c/kg and steers in the 280-350kg range reached 262c and averaged 236c/kg. Weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 266c/kg and averaged 246c. Weaners under 220kg topped at 259c and averaged 228c.

The Handley family, Andromeda Cattle Co, Eddington, Mungallala, sold 250kg crossbred steers to 266c and averaged 261c/$652.

Alan Emery, Mt Beverley, Wallumbilla, sold 293kg Angus steers to 262c/$769.

The Flower family, Garrabarra, Roma, sold 410kg Santa-cross steers to 260c to return $1066, while the 376kg consignment averaged 239c to make $901.

The Anderson family, East Sunrise, Injune, sold Charbray steers to 254c for 335kg to return $853, while their 309kg heifers hit 208c and averaged 208c/ $643.

Lockerbie Farms, Bindi, Wallumbilla, sold Simmental steers to 250c for 308kg to return $771. They also sold 305kg Simmental heifers to 200c/$610.

The Brennan family, For Far, Mitchell, sold 269kg Charbray steers to 250c/$672. They also sold 223kg Charbray heifers to 233c/$520.

Gary Lee, Scotsburn, Mitchell, sold 254kg Limousin-cross steers to 250c/$635. They also sold Limousin-cross heifers to 232c for 220c to make $512.

The Mobbs family, Wallambank, Bollon, sold 310kg Simbrah steers to 248c/$770.

The Whatmore family, Boatman, Morven, sold 332kg Droughtmaster-cross EU steers to 240c/$799.

The Drysdale family, Perola Park, Augathella, sold 356kg Hereford-cross steers to 238c/$849.

The McFadzen family, Farmleigh, Mitchell, sold 350kg Charolais steers to 224c/$784. They also sold 263kg Brahman heifers to 226c and averaged 211c/ $556.

The Ferris family, Rock ton, Surat, sold 405kg Charolais-cross steers to 218c/$884. They also sold 356kg Charolais-cross heifers to 212c/$756.

Cindy Warrian, Bonus, Injune, sold 560kg Brahman-cross steers to 189c/$1060.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 224c and averaged 190c. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 220c and averaged 195c.

Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 234c and averaged 215c/kg. Heifers under 220kg topped at 236c and averaged 221c.

Shane Reiser, Tocal, Mitchell, sold 238kg Brahman-cross heifers to 233c/$556, and, also 298kg Shorthorn-cross heifers to 207c/$619.

Wallockatoo Pastoral Co, Wandoan, sold Santa-cross heifers to 228c and averaged 222c for 288kg to return $640.

Currawarra Pastoral Co, Mitchell, sold 263kg Santa-cross heifers to 216c/$569.

Preston Partnership, Mungallala, sold 409kg Brahman heifers to 188c/769.

Cows over 500kg hit 183c and averaged 168c. Cows 400-500kg topped at 177c and averaged 153c. Cows in the 300-400kg range made 172c and averaged 143c.

Cows and Calves sold to $1300/unit and averaged $1042. Bulls up to 400kg reached 234c to average 200c.
