Roma light steers crack 259c/kg

NUMBERS rose to 6677 head at Queensland’s benchmark Roma store cattle sale on Tuesday. It was a mixed yarding with quality lines of cattle selling to very solid market rates, while plainer sorts maintained the previous week’s prices.

Majority of the cattle on offer were in the medium to heavy weight range. All the usual buyers were present with Darling Downs feedlot buyers being more active than last week.

Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topped 198c/kg to average 186c/kg. Steers 350-400kg reached 223c to average 189c. Steers 280-350kg reached 241c to average 207c. Weaner steers 220-280kg reached 255c to average 214c. Weaners under 220kg topped 259c to average 228c.

Ron Gosso, Wongamere, Morven, sold 173kg Droughtmaster steers to 259c to return $450.

The Macrae family, Dalkeith, Jackson, sold 273kg Santa-cross steers to 255c to average 235c, $642.

Institutional Investments, Toarki, Roma, sold 304kg Brangus steers to 240c, to average 223c, $680.

Harland and Humphries, Gladys Downs, Injune, sold 320kg Charolais steers to 236c, $757.

The Coggan family, Sherwood, Injune, sold 296kg Santa-cross steers to 234c, $694.

The Taylor family, Lying Downs, Injune, sold 302kg Charolais-cross steers to 232c, $702.

The Pobar family, Charlton, Roma, sold 256kg Brangus-cross steers to 229c, $588.

Shane Mills, Woomblebank, Injune, sold 345kg Charolais-cross steers to 222c, $768 and 268kg Charolais heifers for 210c, $564.

Rosemary Ford, Hillcrest, Muckadilla, sold 389kg Droughtmaster steers to 205c, $798.

The Cloherty family, Reben Downs, Injune, sold 406kg Santa steers to 198c, $805.

The Cormack family, Crystalbook, Wallumbilla, sold 482kg Charolais steers to 193c, $931.

Frank and Margot Bode, Bercol Plains, McKinlay, sold 331kg Brahman-cross steers to 192c, $637.

The Wehl family, Ravenswood, Aramac, sold 452kg Droughtmaster steers to 190c, $860.

Heifers 350-450kg reached 200c to average 176c. Heifers 280-350kg topped 222c to average 185c. Heifers 220-280kg topped 226c to average 199c. Heifers under 220kg topped 220c to average 205c.

The Murphy family, Prairie Flats, Charleville, sold Charbray heifers to 217c and averaged 204c for 218kg to return $446.

The Graham family, Kidston, Roma, sold Droughtmaster-cross heifers to 210c to make $618.

The Young family, Munaweena, Mitchell, sold 338kg Brangus heifers to 201c, $680.

Wyndalma Grazing Partnership, Roma, sold 321kg Santa heifers to 199c, $640.

Bruce Smith, Coleraine, Mitchell, sold 351kg Santa heifers to 195c, $686.

Cows over 500kg hit 180c to average 153c. Cows 400-500kg topped 170c to average 145c. Cows 300-400kg made 154c to average 127c.

Cows and calves sold to $1100/unit to average $886.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 230c to average 176c.
