Prices were mixed at Queensland's benchmark Roma store sale yesterday, where a smaller yarding of 3900 head of cattle was on offer.
Feedlot buyers were very active, which pushed prices for those weight categories up 2-6c/kg on average.
Weaner heifers were up by 14c/kg compared to last week's sale, but on average younger steers were lower in price.
The Roma Store Market Index fell almost one point this week to 100.7 points.
Steers in the 400 to 550kg range topped at 195c/kg and averaged 183c/kg (+6); steers in the 350-400kg range topped at 192c/kg and averaged 180c/kg (+4); and steers in the 280 to 350kg range topped at 195c/kg and averaged 174c/kg (-6).
Steers in the 220-280kg range topped at 203c/kg and averaged 180c (-1), while weaner steers under 220kg topped at 200c/kg and averaged 170c (-7).
Heifers in the 350 to 450kg range topped at 176c and averaged 164c (+2), while those in the 280 to 350kg category made 176c and averaged 153c (-4).
Weaner heifers in the 220 to 280kg range made 182c and averaged 162c (+11), and those under 220kg topped at 179c and averaged 165c (+14).
Cows in the 300-400kg range topped at 137c/kg and averaged 115c/kg (+9), while cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 137c/kg and averaged 125c/kg (-12).
Cows and calves topped at $885/unit and sold from $480 to $885.
Bulls up to 400kg topped at 184c and averaged 160c (+13), bulls 400 to 600kg reached 155c and averaged 134c (+2).
