NORTHERN Australia's largest selection of quality Droughtmasters has been catalogued to showcase the 10th anniversary of the MAGS Sale at Charters Towers on November 13-14.
The night and day format sale will feature 170 lots on offer from the Mungalla, Valley, Glen Ruth, Lamont, Cashmere, Farnham and Durack Studs, which all have their foundation in the genetics established by breed pioneer, Monty Atkinson.
In an innovative first, the studs will offer 20 select stud heifers at their 10th Anniversary Sale Dinner at the RSL Club, Charters Towers, from 6.30pm, on Sunday, November 13.
A big-screen video presentation of each lot will be shown as they are auctioned, and the heifers will be on display from the previous Friday at the Dalrymple Saleyards.
"We rarely offer females for sale, however to mark the 10th Anniversary Sale, the vendor group has catalogued a magnificent line of quality heifers right from the top levels of our studs," Rob Atkinson said on behalf of the vendors.
"The bloodlines backing these females have proven themselves generation after generation," he said.
Mr Atkinson said the MAGS vendor group had generously committed the full gross proceeds of lot 1 in the female sale, Lamont Keepsake, to the McGrath Foundation.
A strong quality selection of 10 Vendor Select Sires, 80 Registered Bulls and 60 Herd Bulls will go under the auctioneer's hammer the following day, Monday, November 14 from 10am. More than 90 percent of the offering is poll or scurred.
Many high-profile sirelines are featured in the catalogue including the $55,000 purchase Bryvonlea Elisha, Hamadra Cody ($65,000), Beef 2006 Grand Champion, Glenlands John Boy ($32,500), Yaralla Farnham ($41,000), Strathfield Wizdom ($37,500), and other proven sires of high quality progeny such as Vale View Magnum, Wolfang Fact, Mungalla Redford, Mungalla Niles and Glenlands D Lewis.
"In nine sales to date at Charters Towers, MAGS has sold 1121 bulls to studmasters and cattle producers, and established itself as the leading Droughtmaster sale of northern Australia," Mr Atkinson said.
"At our first sale we averaged $2625 for 63 bulls and since then prices have peaked as high as $50,000, for select stud sires."
Selling Agents McCaffrey's Australian Livestock Marketing of Rockhampton and Geaney's of Charters Towers, are delighted that the MAGS event in the last decade has catered well to a growing demand for quality Droughtmaster bulls in the North.
"Regular buyers appreciate the large choice of both stud and herd bulls, the high percentage of polls, the tremendous temperament and the genetic strength of beef performance in the bulls," Jim Geaney said.
The studs continually assess beef industry performance of their genetics in feature commercial cattle competitions throughout Queensland.
In 2011 MAGS-aligned prime cattle were highly successful across a range of showings including most successful exhibitor awards by Lamont at the Clermont Show, and by Glen Ruth at the Charters Towers Field Day Prime Cattle Show and at the Hughenden Show.
Mr Atkinson said buyers would benefit from the fact that all bulls have been Genestar tested for Feed Efficiency, Marbling and Tenderness, and all have been semen morphology tested and also tested Pestivirus (PI) negative and vaccinated.
"A very attractive volume bull buyer rebate is also offered at the sale ranging from $150 a bull to $250 a bull," Mr Atkinson said.
