All national physical market cattle categories held firm this week, with the exception of Japan ox which increased across all states, Meat and Livestock Australia reports.
The national Japan ox indicator moved 8¢/kg higher to average 180¢/kg (live).
Driving the increase was a 21¢/kg surge in prices in NSW, to average 187¢/kg, while in Queensland, prices lifted 8¢/kg to average 178¢/kg.
Overall cattle yardings at NLRS sales were lower compared to last week.
National over-the-hooks rates for cattle rose across all categories, driven mainly by increases in NSW and Victoria (the latter for heavier categories).
Also, the EYCI finished the week at its highest level so far this year – lifting to 335¢/kg (carcase weight).
