$42,000 record for Brahman herd bull

The selling season for stud cattle has finished on a strong note at the Wilangi, Charters Towers, and Elrose, Cloncurry, auctions over recent days, with a new $42,000 record price for a herd bull achieved at Elrose.

Paul and Brigid Fenech, PBF Brahmans, Sarina, yesterday paid the top-price at Rodger and Lorena Jeffries Elrose sale.

The sale also featured red Brahmans from the Radel family's Kandoona Stud.

According to Elders, the grey Brahmans at the sale averaged $5300, while the red Brahman bulls averaged $8000.

Meanwhile, the Wilangi Invitation Brahman Sale last Thursday and Friday also posted good numbers.

Hosted by the Ron White and family, of the Wilangi Stud, the the sale reached a high of $20,000 for bulls at Thursday night's select sires, which averaged $10,900 for 17 sold.

The 19 select heifers reached a high of $18,000 and averaged $6785.

On Friday there were 104 registered bulls sold to a top of $21,000 at an average of $4300, while 178 herd bulls topped at $8000 and averaged $2620.
