Border region grain growers will have the ear of Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) management, staff and northern panellists in early September when GRDC tours northern NSW and southern Queensland.
James Clark, GRDC northern panel chair says the annual spring tour is a vital part of GRDC’s grower consultation.
“The GRDC tours give panellists an opportunity to build their knowledge of the northern region and opens communications channels between growers, researchers and grains research and development decision-makers,” Mr Clark said.
“It is important for the northern panellists to be on-the-ground to see grower’s challenges and opportunities first hand, particularly if they come from a different region or specific research discipline.
“This is part of GRDC’s robust decision-making system for prioritising research, development and extension funding.”
This year’s tour kicks off on September 8 at Moree, NSW before moving west to view GRDC-funded Northern Grower Alliance (NGA) crown rot trials at Garah and National Variety Trials (NVT) near Mungindi.
GRDC representatives will speak with growers at Mungindi, and Nindigully and St George, Queensland before a visiting grain-producing properties near St George on Day 2.
A tour of Cubbie Station, Dirranbandi, Queensland will be followed by farm visits near Walgett and Lightning Ridge, NSW.
