Grain Gain On-farm courses to boost grower skills

01 Feb, 2012 04:00 AM
GROWERS can enhance their business and leadership skills by participating in Grain Gain On-farm courses offered across Australia by Grain Growers Limited.

GrainGrowers principal economist Gordon MacAulay said the training and development courses, supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation, could help enhance on-farm decision making and therefore boost farm profitability.

“Grain Gain On-farm courses start in February and will cover personal and business leadership along with technical knowledge such as understanding the value chain, grain storage and wheat quality management,” Emeritus Professor MacAulay said.

“Simply put, they are suited to grain producers that want to get more out of their businesses,” he said.

Emeritus Professor MacAulay will facilitate the courses alongside technical services general manager Ken Quail, grower development general manager Michael Southan and guest speaker, Philip Burrill from Agri-Science Queensland - a specialist in grain storage from the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation.

Each course runs from 8.30am to 5pm and costs $50 for growers and $150 for non-growers. Course topics include: leadership basics; grain industry value chain; understanding grain quality and quality assurance; and grain storage and blending.
