QUEENSLAND’S dairy producers will have the chance to show off the cream of the industry at a major breed showcase at Gatton in July.
Event organisers say the Dairy Showcase from July 16-17 as part of the Gatton Show will be styled on Victoria’s hugely successful International Dairy Week, famous for showing off the best of the southern dairy industry.
The Dairy Showcase will be held one month before the Queensland Dairy Organisation (QDO) teams up with the Queensland Branch of the Dairy Industry Association of Australia (DIAA) to hold its annual conference on August 25-26 at Caloundra.
Dairy Showcase committee chair Katherine Raymont said it was time for Queensland’s dairy industry to shine.
“The event aims to provide a major show for all dairy breeds in Queensland,” she said.
“Each breed will be judged individually on the Friday with the top place getters then competing for the supreme awards on the Saturday.”
Categories include: Supreme Cow and Reserve, Supreme Heifer and Reserve, Supreme Juvenile and Reserve, Supreme Junior Udder and Reserve, Supreme Senior Udder and Reserve and Supreme pen of three cows and Reserve
A total of $2000 prize money will be offered for the supreme awards.
“It is hoped the event will provide another option for exhibitors in a country setting,” Ms Raymont said.
“With the University of Queensland Gatton Campus and the Queensland Government Dairy Research Centre both in close proximity this event gives the industry a unique opportunity for all levels to come together.”
Sponsorships close in March and entry forms will be sent out in mid April, with entries closing in mid June.
