World feedstock nitrogen fertiliser prices fall sharply

07 Jul, 2009 02:51 PM
WORLD ammonia prices have fallen to their lowest since January, at US Gulf ports - the latest signal international fertiliser markets are reaching seasonal bottoms, according to the US Farm Futures forecasting model.

A big factor has been waning US farmer demand as the northern hemisphere spring moves into high summer.

Anhydrous is trading around $US163.25 a ton at the Gulf, down almost $27 in the latest week.

It's now reached its lowest level since prices began rising again in January, as they recovered from their historic collapse last year during the US fall season.

Current international prices suggest a fair US farmgate value of $US360 to $US385 a ton, according to the US Farm Futures forecasting model.
