Big storms swept through Central and North Queensland last night, delivering good falls of rain throughout the region, but they also brought flash flooding in parts and damaged the hospital at Baralaba.
And more storms are sweeping through the area this afternoon, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a warning for all points in the Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast, Capricornia, Northern Goldfields, Central Highlands, and Central West regions.
According to The Weather Company, which provides the forecasting information available on FarmOnline, falls of between 25mm and 50mm were common throughout the region last night.
Gladstone recorded 35mm, Rockhampton 45mm, Mingela 43mm, Emerald 15mm, Taroom 25mm, Bundaberg 28mm and Maryborough 33mm.
Further storms are predicted for most of Central and North Queensland again today, which will pose a challenge for emergency service workers in Baralaba who have been tarping roofs.
Resident Polly Bromley, 49, told brisbanetimes.com.au she had never seen such a fierce, localised storm strike the rural community.
"It just came up the river and blew like hell," Ms Bromley said.
The roof was torn from the Baralaba Hospital, as was the roof of the town's ambulance station.
Seven houses also sustained severe roof damage. The town has been without power for 15 hours.
"Apparently some big concrete pylons have come down somwhere," resident Byron Lee said.
Firefighters and police joined State Emergency Services crews from neighbouring towns, Theodore, Moura and Banana to assist residents who were rained out.
The storm cleanup was suspended overnight and will begin again this morning.
