AFTER an eventful couple of weeks in the cyclone world, it looks as though more action is on it's way as Olga gets set to re-intensify into a category one.
First there was Laurence in WA, which managed to reach the top of the Australian cyclone scale, becoming a category 5.
Then more recently there was Magda, another cyclone for WA, although she only managed to reach category 2 status and lived for only a few days. Then, while Magda was still active, Neville appeared in the Coral Sea.
However he too failed to do much more than cause a bit of rain across the North Tropical Coast.
Finally Olga developed in the Coral Sea, east of Neville. She just managed to clip the coast as a category 2 cyclone, but then weakened into just another tropical low.
Now it seems that Olga has gotten some of her spirit back. Although she is currently sitting just inland of the Gulf of Carpentaria, there is a good chance that she will again become a category 1 tropical cyclone.
Although it is hard to predict the movements of such complex systems as cyclones, computer models indicate that Olga will linger for a while over the Gulf, causing rainfall in excess of 200 millimetres in the next few days.
