A total of 6300 head were yarded at Queensland's benchmark Roma Store Sale yesterday.
Average prices for most descriptions were down on last Tuesday’s rates however the best steers and heifers easily matched last week’s top money with weaner steers again making up to 222c/kg.
Heavy steers in the 400-550kg range sold to 182 and averaged 168c/kg (-2c), those in the 350-400kg range sold to 188 to average 173c/kg (+1c), steers in the 280-350kg range sold to 214 and averaged 186c/kg (-5c), steers in the 220-280kg range topped at 218c/kg and averaged 196c/kg (-13c) while weaner steers under 220kg topped at 222c/kg and averaged 205 (-12c).
The Roma Store Index fell to 103.5 points, down 1.7 points.
Cindy Warrian, Blisworth, Injune, sold 470kg Charbray steers for 176c/kg or $830/head while Matt and Anna Ahern, Bulala, Roma, sold 419kg Romagnola steers for 172c/kg or $721/head.
The Warby family, Kilmorey, Mitchell sold 400kg Droughtmaster cross steers for 174c/kg or $700/head while Dawn and Errol Connolly, Tetalga, Roma, sold 334kg Santa steers for 185c/kg to return $620/head.
The East family, Breedon, Longreach, sold 325kg Charolais cross steers for 206c/kg or $671/head and the Owens family, Arranmore Station, Longreach, sold 304kg Santa steers for 205c/kg or $624/head.
Merty Merty Pastoral Co, Merty Merty Station, Leigh Creek, South Australia, enjoyed strong competition on their run of 170 Santa steers. The line topped at 214c/kg at 300kg to return $642/head.
Paul and Sally Kennedy, Dunrowan, Dirranbandi, sold 285kg Santa cross steers for 198c/kg or $565/head.
The Ward family, Pecos Valley, Wandoan, sold 270kg Charolais cross steers for 214c/kg or $580/head the Billing family, Rosevale, Wyandra, sold 276kg Angus cross steers for 218c/kg or $602/head.
Gordon and Jenny Fawckner, Kintilloch, Roma, sold 266kg Charolais cross steers for 216c/kg or $579/head and the Bolam family, Oak Park, Cecil Plains, offloaded 250kg Santa cross steers for 188c/kg or $472/head.
Tim and Jo Caskey, Budgerie, Mitchell, sold to the top end of the market with their 205kg Santa cross steers. The line made 222c/kg to return $455/head.
Heifers the 350-450kg range reached 169 and averaged 154c/kg (+8), those in the 280-350kg topped at 180c/kg and averaged 153 (-9), heifers in the 220-280kg range reached 196 and averaged 168c/kg (-16) while weaner heifers under 220kg reached 200c/kg and averaged 181c/kg.
Bellroy Pastoral Co, Tresillian, Alpha, sold 422kg Droughtmaster cross heifers for 157c/kg or $622/head while the Coomber family, Hillcrest, Roma, sold 405kg Angus cross heifers for 158c/kg or $640/head.
Roma’s Stinson family Moonya sold 366kg Brangus cross heifers for 164c/kg or $601/head while the East family sold 364kg Charolais cross heifers from Wyora, Winton, for 166c/kg or $606/head.
Trevor and Jenny York, Hyde Park, Wallumbilla, sold 358kg Simmental heifers for 166c/kg or $596/head and David Mackenzie, Kyber, Augathella, sold 356kg Charolais cross heifers for 158c/kg or $564/head.
The Gray family, Copperella, Quilpie, offloaded 300kg Santa heifers for 162c/kg or $491/head and Robert and Peter Hanna, Tullundunna, Mitchell, sold 304kg Santa heifers for 152c/kg or $462/head.
Lisnalee Grazing, Lisnalee, Tambo, sold a line of 252 Hereford cross heifers. The 270kg heifers topped at 160c/kg or $433/head.
S Kidman and Co were the major vendors in the heifer section, offloading over 700 heifers from their western Queensland properties Durham Downs and Glengyle Station and their South Australian property Naryilco.
The line included Number 6 Brahman cross heifers that topped at 162c/kg for 236kg or $382/head while Number 7 Angus cross heifers averaging 196kg made up to 200c/kg to return $392/head.
Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 136 and averaged 125c/kg (+1) while cows in the 300-400kg range reached 130 and averaged 104c/kg (-3).
Cows and calves sold from $650/unit to $940/unit.
