Rains to unleash on southern Qld

Rains to unleash on southern Qld

19 May, 2009 10:35 AM
The rains are brewing over Queensland and they don't look very friendly, especially for the southeast where the deluge is likely to be heavy and long-lasting.

WeatherZone forecasts that cloud will thicken over the region, unleashing showers to start with and culminating in rain and isolated thunderstorms.

Accumulated totals should be largest on the coast, but falls will be widespread from Gympie to Goondiwindi.

Brisbane has only picked up 4 millimteres so far this May, potentially its driest May in 9 years.

However, the predicted events of the next week could actually bring double the May rainfall average and break the current May record of 82 millimetres.

Models are expecting somewhere between 100 to 200 millimetres for the area.
