Milmerran and Inverell ready to ride

24 Feb, 2010 01:21 PM
AUSTRALIAN Professional Rodeo Association general manager Steve Hilton has no doubt the Millmerran Show Rodeo on February 27 will be a roaring success.

For the second year running, the Millmerran Rodeo is for APRA championship points and therefore includes all eight association events.

The timed events start at 1pm and the rough stock events at 6pm at the Millmerran Rodeo.

The saddle bronc favourite will be 2009 pro tour winner, Millmerran cowboy Peter Moffatt (pictured).

The best of the barrel racers from the day will also compete at night in a shoot out, which has been included due to a request from the fans.

Rodeo stock for Millmerran are being provided by Warwick contractor Frank Biddle and Gill Brothers Rodeo from Upper Horton, NSW.

Hilton said, traditionally, most of the Queensland rodeos were from Easter to the end of the year.

"It is good news to have three championship points rodeos in the first three months of the year," Hilton said.

"Nominations are good everywhere."

As well as Millmerran on February 27, there are APRA points rodeos in Queensland at Woodford on March 13 and Murphy's Creek on March 20.

The Murphy's Creek Rodeo is a new APRA event, part of the proceeds going to the Miss Rodeo Australia quest, which is being re-introduced.

Hilton said he expected many of the rough stock riders would compete in the Inverell Show Rodeo on February 26 and then travel on to Millmerran.

Gill Brothers Rodeo are the contractors for Inverell where there is a bull ride, saddle bronc ride and bareback bronc ride.

Bull rider Ryan Gill, of Upper Horton, will be one of many cowboys going for a Inverell/Millmerran double.
