The killing or thinning out of animals on health grounds is normal in Australia, but why is so much protection given to bats? In my lifetime we have killed camels, buffalo, rabbits, poultry and caged birds, herds of dairy cows, unwanted cats and dogs and more, but culling virus-carrying bats is obstructed and elimination seems to be out of the question. If it is true that 30 percent of bats carry the deadly Hendra virus why are we mucking about listening to bat-lovers ? I notice Katter has a plan of sorts to deal with bats but he does not tell us how he intends to implement the plan.
