Assurances CSG wells won't feed flames in fire season

08 Oct, 2011 03:00 AM
QUEENSLAND Fire and Rescue Service commissioner Lee Johnson says there is no risk of coal seam gas wells exploding in Queensland bush fires.

Mr Johnson told a meeting of the Surat Basin Engagement Group in Brisbane that while CSG well infrastructure could be damaged or even set alight in a fire, there was no risk on explosion.

He warned that, based on current fuel loads, Queensland was currently facing a similar extreme fire risk to the mid-1970s.

How many gas field bush fires has Lee Johnson been involved in? None. Zero. Nada. So how on earth does he have any idea what is going to happen to high pressure gas pipelines and gas storage tanks? He dosent, its irresponsible to make these assurances. If we get explosions we know whom to blame for not being ready for it.

Mr Johnson is guaranteeing this with his life then? Or just with our lives? Explosions are but one danger. The biggest risk we face here, from British Gas, is that our corrupt council has allowed them to trash our escape routes.
