Quality bloodlines went under the hammer with strong prices at the 34th annual Dalby Australian Stock Horse sale on the weekend.
Mares were the standout purchase at the largest ridden ASH sale in the country, with an equal record price of $70,000 paid for eight-year-old Clarke Family Roxette.
Evan and Kim Acton of Acton Land and Cattle Co, Millungerra, Julia Creek, bought Roxette, lot 285, a Warrenbri Romeo-Baree Lena mare, prepared by Troy and Sally Clarke, Bingara, NSW.
The record 400 nominations had a clearance rate of 76 percent and a gross amount of $2,494,273 changed hands during the sale.
"Our overall average was on par with a 2006 sale, and we've set a new record for the highest price paid for a gelding," Elders sale coordinator Jennifer Kelly said.
Well-seasoned gelding, 13-year-old Vintage Casey, lot 316 (Bates Bille Joe- Suttons Bessebruce) sold to Col Sylvester, Geurie, NSW, for the record price for a gelding at $24,000.
Vendor Vic Gough, Lowood, said the horse was one of the best he had ridden.
Second top price of the sale went to eight-year old-mare Hazelwood Nitrogen (Warrenbri Romeo- Hazlewood Nipan), owned by Peter and Carol McGrath. Nitrogen, lot 75, sold to Christina Jones of Jones Cattle Company, Katherine for $60,000.
Top-priced stallion went to Touchwood Stock Horses for their 11- year-old Soda Bradman (Warrenbri Romeo-Gold Cloud).
Bradman, lot 282, sold to Sean and Bindie Brassington of Erroll Park, Bell, for $40,000 and will stand at Huon Smith’s Boonara Complex, Tansey.
