PRIMARY producers in flood-affected south-west and central Queensland shires can now apply for $25 000 flood grants to help pay to repair damaged infrastructure.
AgForce president Brent Finlay thanked the State and Federal government for activating the grants under ‘Category C’ funding of Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
“Since last week AgForce has been in close communication with State Agriculture Minister Tim Mulherin emphasising how serious the damage will be from the floods in southern inland Queensland and in central parts,” Mr Finlay said.
“While it’s very early days and floodwaters are still high, farmers and graziers are reporting terrible damage to fences, dams and homesteads, particularly in areas along the Maranoa, Warrego and Balonne Rivers systems.
“These people face weeks and months of costly repair work to get their businesses back on their feet and these grants are good first steps to getting them going.”
Mr Finlay acknowledged Minister Mulherin’s prompt attention in raising the need for these grants with his Federal counterparts.
Category C NDRAA assistance is now available for the Local Government Areas of Balonne, Barcaldine, Blackall-Tambo, Maranoa, Murweh and Paroo and is paid in two tiers:
Tier 1 - grants of up to $5,000 to assist primary producers, small businesses and not for profit organisations with immediate early recovery (subject to future QRAA audit) Tier 2 - grants of up to $20,000 to recover costs that the primary producer, small businesses and not for profit organisations have paid in order to repair direct flood damage. For further information on levels of assistance available primary producers can contact QRAA on Freecall 1800 623 946 or at www.qraa.qld.gov.a u
