Dugald Cameron's lifetime of involvement and dedication was recognised at the 2008 Rabobank Queensland Red Meat Awards last night.

Mr Cameron received the prestigious 13th annual Rural Press Red Meat Industry Achiever of the Year Award.

"The Cameron name is a well known one as Dugald was one of the pioneers of the feedlot industry in Australia and his early work on developing eating quality assurance systems which were the precursors to Meat Standards Australia and other innovations such as viascan carcass assessment tools is equally well regarded," AgForce vice president/treasurer Charles Burke said.

Mr Burke said the Awards also showcased some other star performers in the red meat industries from across the state.

The award winners announced on the night were:

· Queensland Rural Industry Training Council Education Award – MLA feedback TV;

· AgForce Supply Chain Award – Stanbroke Pastoral Company;

· MLA Casual Dining Award – Restaurant Lurleen’s at Sirromet Winery;

· MLA Fine Dining Award – BC’s Bar & Grill Restaurant, Roma;

As the winner of the "Rabobank Beef Producer Award", I would like to thank the people who have encouraged me to continue with the concept of producing a naturally tender beef product. There are many gains to be made in the food chain as the tough eating beef is not produced by the grazier. Shortens the pathway from the paddock to the plate. All animals have the Tender Genes, some breeds more than the other - with the simple DNA test we can identify these specific animals and use them in the breeding program. This Technology was developed in Qld - the Smart State - this GeneSTAR technology will play an important role in the future developement of the Beef Industry
