TORRENTIAL rain has dumped on Southern Queensland, bringing the highest February falls in more than 100 years in some places.
On Saturday the weather station at Mt Tamborine received 364mm in a 24-hour period, making this the highest recorded recorded fall during the month of February since the station went into operation in 1888.
The most heavily effected region extended from north of Brisbane to Lismore in NSW with most weather stations within 50km of the coast reporting over 100mm.

This unusually high rainfall was caused by the trough that has been sitting off the coast of NSW for the last week, drawing in moisture over the ocean without a trigger to cause rainfall.
As the trough moved north and over land, it triggered convective systems to develop releasing the moisture.
Heavy storms have again passed through Queensland on Sunday and more is to come, with the trough expected to push further inland over the next few days causing showers and storms to spread deep though Queensland and NSW.
