The Bureau of Meteorology has this week opened a new state-of-the-art home in Brisbane.
Opening the new premises, Federal Labor MP Arch Bevis said the updated headquarters would provide an increased capacity for the Bureau to monitor severe weather and floods – including tropical cyclones – with the introduction of more modern computing and communications infrastructure.
"This new address at 69 Ann Street now houses the Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre, Flood Warning Centre, and the Regional Forecasting Centre which issue the forecasts and warnings people have come to rely on, as well as the Bureau's administrative centre for Queensland," Mr Bevis said.
"The Australian community has come to expect a high quality of weather services from the Bureau of Meteorology and with these new facilities I am sure that will continue."
