The Queensland Government’s community CSG forums that have been rolling out across the Surat Basin the past week have highlighted the significant progress being made behind the scenes.
Chairman of the Basin Sustainability Alliance Ian Hayllor attended the Dalby session on Tuesday and said he had been pleased with the developments the Government had made on a number of key issues.
"The Premier and Ministers obviously listened to the concerns raised about CSG activity at the Roma community cabinet and have made considerable effort to address them," Mr Hayllor said.
"This is real community consultation and very much appreciated by landholders and communities that are facing the full impact of the CSG industry."
Also attending the Dalby session was Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Stirling Hinchliffe and newly appointed Co-ordinator General Graeme Newton.
Mr Hinchliffe outlined his Government’s commitment to servicing the needs of communities affected by CSG development and said they were determined to get the balance right.
The main topics covered at the forum included environment and water, strategic cropping land, land access and compensation, and compliance and monitoring.
Mr Hayllor welcomed the Government’s commitment to attain a balance in development, compliance and land access and credits them for the work that has been achieved in the last few weeks which has gone some way to allay a number of concerns.
"We are certainly hearing of some very progressive developments and I hope the Government moves forward actioning these quickly," he said.
"Actions speak louder than words and it will be action that will go part way to restoring people’s confidence."
