The forthcoming elections for positions on the AWI board are extremely important as it provides an opprotunity to give the organisation a greater global marketing focus, according to the Australian Superfine Wool Growers Association.
The group says it is essential the new board of AWI has a balance of skills and abilities among the directors to enable AWI to operate a global marketing research and innovation business to the advantage of Australian woolgrowers.
ASWGA president Kevin Dunn said the AWI board needs a breadth of skills and expertise to provide the best solutions to achieve a sustainable increase in the price of wool to a level that will attract growers back to wool production and secure the future of our industry.
"ASWGA supports the move to a nine member board as this allows the opportunity to seek candidates that can meet the skills requirements needed by AWI," Mr Dunn said.
"The appointment of three independent directors in April with skills that covered financial management, international marketing, corporate governance and experience in managing a global business was a step in the right direction."
Mr Dunn urged all woolgrowers to exercise their vote in the coming election for the AWI Board and support those candidates who will bring valuable skills and expertise to the board that must operate in an international environment.
