Following the successful launch of the Shower Suit in Japan last year when more than 70,000 units sold in the first 12 months, apparel manufacturer Konaka has placed an order for an additional 170,000 suits.

This brings the total number of units to date to about one quarter of a million in Japan alone.

According to AWI chief executive Craig Welsh, the Japanese experience has only scratched the surface of the Shower Suit’s potential.

"In the wake of the business suit success, ladies wear and corporate business wear designs are also under development," Mr Welsh said.

"I'm also very excited there is talk of an airline adopting the technology for its cabin crew uniforms."

Mr Welsh said the Shower Suit, which literally can be washed clean in the shower, was the ideal solution for busy career men and women who want the convenience of easy care apparel without the cost and hassle of regular dry cleaning.

The Shower Suit can be spray rinsed in a warm shower for three to four minutes and drip dries within a few hours at room temperature.

Provided the garment is hung appropriately, no ironing is required.

Konaka has more than 300 stores across Japan and is targeting job-hunting students and young business people who live alone.
