Rural property agents are hoping strong commodity prices and above-average rainfall in south-eastern Australia will boost sales across the sector this spring.
Elders national manager Shane McIntyre told The Australian Financial Review that all indicators point to strong sales activity.
"We've got a season that is the best in two decades. There's been a replenishment of the river systems, commodity prices are very sound with respect to grain and there have been significant improvements for red meat and wool," he says.
While confidence grows in south-eastern Australia, Mr McIntyre fears lower rainfall could stymie transactions in Western Australia's wheat belt and northern areas.
"The pastoral country of Western Australia is enduring a very tough period of significantly lower rainfall than usual.
"The Pilbara and Gascoyne are deficient in rainfall and there's been a need to reduce stock numbers," he says.
