Honda flags mower safety

28 Dec, 2009 07:22 AM
WITH the arrival of warmer weather, translating to spending more time outdoors, Honda Power Equipment is drawing attention to its Rotostop blade brake technology.

Known as Blade Brake Clutch, it says the innovation will stop mower blades within three seconds of the operator releasing the handle – a feature that is fitted to its HRU216M1 Buffalo Classic lawnmower.

The company’s sales manager, Ray Briffa, says the technolgy has been used in Honda lawnmowers in the USA for some time, successfully preventing lawnmower injuries.

"Although this safety standard is not mandatory in Australia, we have incorporated the technology into the new HRU216M1 mower to protect operators, bystanders, children and pets," he said.

Aside from the inbuilt safety features of the new Honda lawnmower, Ray Briffa says there is no substitute for basic safety practices and common sense.

Ray Briffa I have some questions for you. Why has the technolgy been used in Honda lawnmowers in the USA for some time and not here? Why is the US so deserving of it at the exclusion of Australians? If Honda was serious, it would be a standard feature across their entire range!
