It was a "complete package" with very good sire outlook for his stud that attracted $10,500 to become the top-priced ram at the South Australia Mount Bryan Collinsville Merino ram sale recently.
Broadaok stud's Kevin and Allan Hams were delighted with the 122-kilogram 16-month-old ram with a micron fleece of 21, 16.7 coefficient of variation, 3.5 standard deviation and 99.5 comfort factor, and said the ram would be a "new family for our stud".
The Hams also bought the brother of the top priced ram, sired by Masterbuilt 444, for $2800.
David Hodder, Old Dundee Stud, Marnoo bought the second top price ram for $5000 and then went on to buy a further two polls.
"We're changing to polls but I bought the horned ram because of his wool type, he was plain bodied, nice wool, open in the face and was an easier care type of Merino," Mr Hodder said.
The ram had wool measurement figures of 20.4M, 18.14CV, 3.7SD and 98.9CF.
In the breakdown 132 of 108 Merino rams sold for an average of $1127 and a clearance of 89 per cent.
Keeping the average up was NSW buyer Bruce Sutherland, Burta Station, Broken Hill, who handpicked a whopping 31 rams to $1300 twice.
Despite being a return buyer at Collinsville, this was the first time Mr Sutherland had bought "this volume of rams".
