AAco fed up with Elders, alleging a load of bull

22 Mar, 2010 08:40 AM
AUSTRALIAN Agricultural Company has had enough of its former major shareholder, Elders, after a long-running dispute over cattle feed supplements.

AAco's new chief executive, David Farley, is said to have sent a memo to staff on Friday instructing them to cancel their trading relationship with Elders (although existing contracts will be honoured), according to The Australian Financial Review.

AAco, once Elders's largest client, remains a major customer of the rural services group and therefore tens of millions of dollars of sales contracts could be at risk.

The dispute over cattle feed supplements is believed to have begun about four years ago and although there were settlement talks, it is understood Elders's insurers did not agree to a payment because they thought no claim was warranted.

AAco says the supplement mix affected the fertility of its herd, and in the past it has floated the idea of seeking compensation of up to $40 million. AAco now wants to launch legal action, and as a result, its new business will be diverted to AWB's Landmark division and other suppliers.

Its not just AACO that is fed up with Elders. Most farmers have had enough of Elders, shareholders have certainly had enough of Elders and the Banks have already shown that they have had enough of Elders. The sooner Elders is taken over by someone that is interested in their clients, their customers and their stakeholders the better. This AACO issue is symptomatic of a systemic problem within Elders.

Elders didn't look after their local branch managers. So they moved to other agencies and their clients went with them.

Just goes to show that shonky business never pays. Cut a few percent here in lick inputs, and the customer won't know. That is until they find out. Save a couple of bucks then and then lose millions later. Would except any thing better from them. Or potentially if you are an Elders Shareholder, they might actually make a profit now, because they would nearly be losing money to keep the AA Co account.

Gee it took some longer than others to work out what Elders have been up to for years! Glad we worked it out 4years ago...they have been around in the last 4 months, searching for customers - none available here. They did get the cockroach next door though, not shure who is screwing who there!

Please keep in mind that there are a lot of good honest hard working people employed by Elders all over Australia. The issues that Elders currently face on the whole have been made by management and past management. All of you out there that are looking forward to Elders going down might like to think outside the circle. Competition is a great thing and our industry needs the Elders, Landmarks along with Private Agents. It is a fact of life that a few doing the wrong thing does not mean all are.

Gee, The light in a dark tunnel. What a great sell to Governments of struggling countries we send meat to. Gee wiz feed them and we will sort out your millions of starving all in one sweep. All we need is the right salesmen in Government. You know nudge nudge wink wink. As fo AAC - there is an old saying, lay with dogs and you catch fleas. So in others words they are saying stock from some of these feedlots could be the answer to an over populated world. I would not be running away from Elders if I were them. They don't call me HKM Halal Kind Meats for nothing. We have found our birth control for millions of people starving to death at last. Where can I sign up - I will buy the lot!

it took aaco management way to long to do anything about the problem that was first raised long before all this blew up, typically now aaco is busy trying to go down the drain just a little bit quicker by wasting money on lawyers who MIGHT get some compensation from elders! Aaco should worry about their own backyard and fix up their money issues first. having said that they are going the right way of going broke asap anyway!
