 HAC chair denies collapse claims

HAC chair denies collapse claims

28 Feb, 2010 02:23 PM
THE Horticulture Australia Council (HAC) isn’t going anywhere.

HAC chairman Stuart Swaddling has quashed industry rumours the HAC was about to fold due to financial difficulties.

When asked about the rumour, Mr Swaddling laughed at the suggestion.

He told FarmOnline that while the organisation may have reduced the number of hours of its CEO and finances were always being stretched, HAC was not about to fold.

He said in May, members would be asked to comment on a restructure of the organisation.

In early September last year, HAC revealed it was struggling financially when some members failed to pay annual fees, but later said it had found a way forward.

HAC claims to represent more than 98 per cent of the Australian horticulture industry.

It is the peak national umbrella organisation representing the horticulture sector and currently has 19 members (national peak industry bodies for the various horticultural commodities, and state grower associations).

HAC was formed in June 2000 as a not-for-profit association.

How could you support an organization that lies about it's representation, there are 42 different horticultural bodies and they claim only 19, there is a flaw in their maths to the same extent as their policies!

Grower, You are confused. It is Horticulture Australia Ltd (HAL) the govt hort body that represents 42 hort industries and collects levies. HAC is a not for profit association operating as a peak national umbrella organisation.
