In spite of reducing canola national production estimates by 135,000 tonnes due primarily to moisture related issues, the Australian Oilseeds Federation (AOF) is still predicting a production increase of almost 600,000 tonnes on last season.
Estimates have been revised down slightly in all States - but there has been no major change in crop condition - with the total flagged to be 1.66 million tonnes.
Early support following Anzac Day rains in NSW waned slightly following a dry spell afterwards and while there were good rains in parts last week they were patchy.
In Victoria and South Australia there were reasonable rains following a lengthy dry spell since a mid-May break.
Crops in the two States have generally fully emerged and vary from the one to four leaf stage.
There are some insect concerns especially with lucerne flea in parts of the Wimmera but overall the AOF said it was no worse than usual.
Crop condition is excellent through Victoria's Western District. Both States have virtually unchanged estimates from the previous month.
In Western Australia it has generally been dry since most areas received a good break.
As such, more than 60,000 tonnes has been taken off the estimates. However the AOF is still predicting a better year for canola than last year in the west.
