CBH enters South American market with GPIQ Grain

4/07/2008 1:24:00 PM
The first-ever shipment of CBH's Grain Pool Integrated Quality barley has arrived in South America, delivering 25,000 tonnes of Baudin to the world's largest brewer, SABMiller.

The fully quality-assured, 25,000-tonne shipment of malting barley was sourced directly from Western Australian growers in Grass Patch and Esperance.

Justin Swan, Grain Pool barley marketing manager, said the shipment not only marks the first time that Grain Pool has sold direct to its customer SABMiller, it's the first time that Baudin barley has been supplied to the South American market.

"Grain Pool has been competing against other leading global marketers for a number of years now, in an attempt to enter this important market," he said.

"This sale is testament to the joint efforts of Quality Assured growers and the Grain Pool barley team, and to the development of GPIQ Grain.

"With brewing interests in more than 60 countries, SABMiller has a strong focus on distributing superior quality products and as a result, they're coming to Grain Pool to source superior quality grain."

GPIQ Grain integrates Hazard Critical Control Point (HACCP) certified quality systems for the receival, storage, handling and marketing of quality grain, and is traceable all the way from crop to shop.
