Now they're "on message with me", says Barnaby

20 Jul, 2010 09:42 AM
DURING the 2007 election campaign, Barnaby Joyce was a Coalition renegade and Liberal strategists shuddered every time the colourful Queenslander opened his mouth.

But now the Nationals Senate leader and opposition frontbencher gloats he is not so much on message with the rest of the Coalition as "they're on message with me", The Australian Financial Review reports

He is even claiming credit for crafting a central Coalition campaign theme. "For instance, talking about debt which at the start I was ridiculed for, but now it's front and centre of the campaign, isn't it?" Senator Joyce said yesterday.

Senator Joyce chose Mareeba in far north Queensland to kickstart his campaign. "As Julia Gillard moves forward, I'm looking after the people she has left behind," he said.

Nationals leader Warren Truss is nominally heading up the party's "Wombat Trail" campaign, focusing on Queensland and NSW, but will join forces with Senator Joyce at various junctures.

Barnaby should stop smoking those banana skins, it has sent him delusional!

I always find what Barnaby has to say is at least interesting and often a little witty. I'm sure he intentionally frames his comments to be a little different and thus get the headline. Beats 'slogans for bogans'. The excuse that the two (Labour and Liberal) leaders have to pander to the 5 second news grab is wearing a little thin. Let's see some serious, constructive debate. Barnaby is right in my books, it is the wider economy we should all concern ourselves with. Reward Productivity and give value for tax payer dollars.

Tigerdicky needs to start eating his greens instead of smoking them! Debt is what Labor has given us, and nothing else. That surplus Howard and Cstello gave us? It got hosed up against a wall, and what ran down trickled into Chinese bank accounts.

I think it should be noted on the record, that it was Barnaby Joyce who first exposed Kevin Rudd’s political glass jaw. Before Barnaby came along Rudd was untouchable and unstoppable. Of course the intelligentsia on both sides of politics would rather have their eyes put out with hot pokers, than admit that.

Australia's debt is one of the lowest, number 7, of the OECD countries (check http://stats.oecd.org/Index.aspx?DataSetCode=GOV_DEBT). The Liberals will lower it though. They sold Telstra, what will be next?? the ABC, Medibank, hospitals

Sell the ABC Dave? Is there actually a market for a supplier of blatantly one eyed green/left propaganda? How about we shut the joint down altogether and put their budget up for tender so the existing broadcasters can get additional funding to take the extra effort to fill the gaps. And the likes of O'Brien and Jones can pursue their true calling as bus drivers. You are right Qlander, Rudd and Turnbull are both Barnaby's scalps.

Motty you want to see more cooking shows, more talentless "talent shows' or maybe Big Brother is your fav?? No tks, I'll give it a miss. However my point was the noise of our debt and it is very small especially when compared to other developed countries and when compared to GDP is the second lowest!!!

Qlander you are too kind to describe the chattering monkeys as intelligentsia.
