The social impacts of drought will be discussed today when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd visits a cattle property near Emerald, in Central Queensland.
Mr Rudd has been a fairly familiar face in the bush this year and will call at "Wyuna", near Emerald, for a look at a Queensland cattle operation.
He is expected to make some interim announcements in relation to a study of the social impacts of drought and drought assistance in farming communities.
The study was one of three commissioned by the Government as part of an overhaul of drought assistance measures to better prepare farmers for climate change.
A special committee, appointed by Minister for Agriculture, Tony Burke, has been touring the country and meeting with farmers and rural business to gauge the levels of distress in drought-affected communities, the social consequences of dorught and the social impacts of assistance.
Mr Rudd is also expected to discuss the impact of climate change on agriculture.
