More rain falls in eastern states

01 Sep, 2008 08:23 PM
The rain band, which has delivered falls across the country during the past week, continued to deliver good rain to Queensland and New South Wales last night.

The areas that have received up to 50mm expanded greatly on Sunday and overnight,.

A large portion of the NSW tablelands and north west (see map) have been added to the list of centres to receive good falls this week.

Significantly, much of the rain has fallen over a substantail part of the wheatbelt in three states.

It's a positve first step towards the good spring finish to the season needed in many areas, to guarantee the big national grain harvest expected from the expanded acreage.

If you study the rainfall map closely, you will see that not much useful rain has fallen in the southern wheat belt at all.

A lot of the traditional wheat growing area west of the Newel Highway got very little.

Falls of 25mm are required in the next two weeks otherwise the first hot days of spring will wipe out hundreds of thousands of acres across the eastern wheatbelt.

I have noticed the drop in grain prices since reports of great rains in the wheat belt have been published. The BOM has failed again on their excited pridictions. The government could pay me - I would be a lot cheaper and get it just as correct.
