Good rain falls across the country

21/07/2008 2:00:00 PM
In a timely boost for winter crop prospects handy falls of rain have been recorded in all of the eastern States overnight, and follows on from good rain in the west last week.

Wet conditions are expected to continue today, according to The Weather Company.

It says cloud over Queensland, in increasingly humid, unstable air, is causing patchy rain and thunder, mainly in the northeast.

Cloud over inland NSW, Victoria and Tasmania in strong cold southwesterly winds is causing showers and alpine snow, while patchy cloud over South Australia in is only bringing light showers.

In the 24 hours to 9am the Bureau of Meteorology recorded the following totals:

* Victoria: Tatura 12mm, Benalla 20mm, Corryong 29mm, Strathbogie 33mm, and Lake Eildon 31mm;
