Constitutional reforms bring share price boost for AWB

Constitutional reforms bring share price boost for AWB

09 Sep, 2008 06:45 PM
The wider investment community has approved of the events at AWB in the past week.

Shares rallied initially after the removal of the dual share structure last week, while the resignation yesterday of the four rebel grower directors against reform also saw a rally.

AWB shares have today been trading at $3.18, up 9.6pc from the $2.90 price before last week’s meeting.

The current price came back from $3.27 on Monday, when there was a 7.57pc increase after the resignation of the dissident directors.

The share price was a lot higher before Brendan Stewart and his mates did the deals in Iraq. How quickly people forget. Brendan is the only Food for Oil director still refusing to leave. He still won't honour his promise to resign after the vote was won. This man cannot be trusted to honour his word. It seems the chairman's pay packet and expense account is too good to let go. What remunerous and severance pay will he receive on his way out the door? A handsome reward for leading a company through the most disgusting and dishonest period in company history. Well done Brendan.

Yes history will not be kind to Brendon but obviously he does not care. I have no real interest in the share value - what upsets me is the fact that I now have no organisation that will put my interests first as a wheat grower selling into a corrupted wheat market. AWB is now just another trader and one with a pretty ordinary image - Never mind though, Brendan and his cronies will be in the process of slicing and dicing the company - it will be unrecognisable in the very near future.
